You can get the ethernet adaptor for the gamecube and play online with the only game that supports it: Phantasy Star Online I and II.
If you want to surf the net, you can't.

Yes, you can.
The thing is, you can only go online with a few select games and you need a modem adapter.
And heres a list if them:
(the first 3 utilize a special program called Warppipe)
Kirby's Air Ride
1080: Avalanche
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Phantasy Star Online
Phantasy Star Online 2

Nope, you can't go online with the gamecube.
You can with the Wii though.
