but then they go and act racist like use racial slurs? I am white myself but notice a lot of white people doing this, they dont want to acknowledge that black people and other minorities sometimes still suffer alienation and discrimination, and they act like everything is equal or better for the blacks, when in doing this, they actually are nurturing racism! To pretend it doesnt exist only keeps it alive. I used to get sick of having history and the exploiation of black people and ither minorities rubbed in my face as a high school student or younger, but now I understand why it's done this way---SO IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN! What I mean is, these certain white people act like slavery and racism and discrimination against blacks was so long ago that it is no longer relevant to today, and that today the main form of discrimination is social class the rich vs the poor or middle class, but like I said believing this only perpetuates racism! Any1 know what I mean and can you provide insight?

Racism isn't a thing of the past. It's stupid as hell to think that only Whites can be racist. There are minorities who say & do bad things to White people. But they aren't considered racist. While anytime any White person does a bad thing to a minority they're considered a racist. People are such stupid hypocrites. Everyone in our society thinks that racism is horrible & evil, but White people are the only group that gets blamed for it. I think that you're a really STUPID GIRL. You're saying that only Whites can be racist, & that all White people should feel guilty for the bad things that other White people did in the past.

there have been great strides in decreasing racism, but it will always be around.
whites are not the only ones that perpetuate racism.
look at al sharpton and jesse jackson - they have done more to harm blacks than they have ever done to help. they create a victim mentality that traps black. many don't feellike they have to strive to suceed - they think it is owed to them. the government should not pay reparations - i have never lynched anyone - why should my money (taxes) be given to black. then we better start giving it to irish, jews, muslims, christians, women.
i think one the biggest problems with our society is the CANCER called POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. it has made liars out of most of us, it has stopped much of the important debating that helped change our society for the better.

You have to understand that the race discriminated against do fulfill their own stereotypes. I'm Latino and I've got to say that were I went to school (like 98% white) I had no racism issues whatsoever. However when we had to go to away games in less reputable neighborhoods, the stereotypes came out (blacks, latinos, etc.) They were ghetto, obnoxious, and disrespectful towards my teamates when we hadn't done anything to offend them. The same happened when I went to college. I'm in the computer lab (no cellphones, no loud talking) and guess who won't shut up? That's right, the blacks. Damn, now I'm starting to believe those stereotypes myself. So people, racism brings on itself. Why is the problem not so severe in other countries, hmm? The United States is stuck in a loophole. I blame all that ghetto lifestyle sh!t. Don't act like a stupid scum! My cousins who grew up in middle class, suburban neighborhoods are now S.O.L. for college b/c they tried to be "ghetto cool" during high school. Damnit educate yourselves! Don't settle for less, when you could do so much better!

Racism of today is sugar coated. Of course the race that is being treated unfairly will notice this. Also their is denial. No one wants to be blamed for hate crimes because of their ancestors. People say we should forget but we can't because it's are past, present and some cases future. My people haven't got their land back and I'm supposed to get over it. People need to open their eyes!!!!!
Congrats for seeing the light!!!! You get a star.

I most definately agree with you. Racism is on the rise again. Actually I am old enough to remember the 1970's and those were the best times. The Hippy times. Those times it was in vogue to think of your brother. To think about living in peace. Flower power and all that. 2007 seems to see a rise once again in violence, skinheads, neo nazis and all kinds of everyday racism from your average person. Its unacceptable and if it continues to rise and increase violence will be on the rise and turn brother against brother. We have to change. Speak out against racism and on Yahoo I dont care what anyone says Report the people that hurt others on here.

We don't act like it's a think of the past, in fact we are the ones facing racism with affirmative action denying us jobs, student loans, government contracts and entering certain schools. We are also called racists if we are proud of our culture.

Simply because it's not something that they have ever had to deal with, so they don't think it exists. Also I think because in their minds, they know that it exists, but they would feel guilty about admitting it, so they pretend that it doesn't.
I'm taking American history at my university now and I see the looks on the white kids faces. They don't want to hear about it. They don't think there's any way any of it can be true. They'd better get with the program. I would hate to see history repeat itself.

It's nice to pretend that bad things do not exist.
Denial.
Or maybe they have never seen or experianced it. We should all accept that racism and discrimination has not vanished just because it is year 2007.

I never owned a slave, nor have I judge someone based upon their race.
Why do some blacks act like discrimination against whites is not racism?
The answer to your question and to mine is the same. Individuals are responsible for their actions, not a "race".
