Hi :)
I'm 36 weeks, and starting to get REALLY nervous about the delivery. I want NO pain, I don't want my legs to go numb, and I don't want anything to make me feel like I can't breathe right. Can you give me suggestions about what kind of medicines I should be thinking about, and ask for?

Sometimes... when you are in the amount of pain you will be in... your cares about having your legs numb tend to dissipate. All you can think of is get this thing out of me and make the god damn pain STOP! The ones that make you not able to breathe right are usually used for quick relief before c sections. Which I had but I wasn't intibated or anything and compared to the pain I was in I welcomed it. Your doctors will take care of you. Generally for normal labor and delivery you won't be given anything that would inhibit your breathing. And if you were it was because your epideral was too strong because it wasn't doing its job on the pain. You'll just have to kind of wing it if you don't want to discuss this with your doctor prior to delievery, which I strongly suggest you do.

I'm not really sure if you'll achieve "no pain" if you're not willing to go a little numb. Maybe ask your doc about a "walking epidural" it's just a lighter dose, so you can still walk and move - that should take away a lot of the pain at least, and then if you change your mind they can easily up the dose in an instant.

Good luck

You want NO PAIN? Then sounds to me that child aint commin' out!
I had an epidural, and it still hurt! having my legs numb wasnt that bad... kinda cool actually! Once that baby's born, you totally forget about your legs!

I had Stadol through my IV which just helped relax me, and I had a nerve block which numbed my birth canal. No epidural.
