I think all you can do is be his friend and be close to him let him cry on your shoulder. Just be a good friend and show him that you are not going anywhere and the trust will come. It worked for me just try not to get annoyed.

All you can do is be there and let him talk. Be that person he can trust and over time he will begin to see that he can trust.
There is nothing you can say that will change anything. He had to do it himself. But with your help and understanding he can do it.

Tell him the only person will cure him is him and that maybe take a while but you should care and prove yourself you person he can trust him and don't ever let him down because

It depends, because if he is using that as an excuse to act the way he is then he will keep pushing that button. Other wise just continue to be honest and he will come around.
