I am answering this question from my imac. Macbooks are very nice but unless you are really going to take advantage of the portability of them I would suggest the imac. The screen is larger for mutlimedia, the new keyboards rock because they are paper thin, and everything is built into the screen.
Macbooks get hot with the battery and laptops tend to wear out faster than desktops in general.

I don't know if your ready for COLLEGE....considering you can't spell it correctly. Also, ALOT is not a word but a lot is.

You can always get a hub for USB devices, so that isn't an issue.

Get the one with the fastest harddrive(more RPM) and the most RAM. Then you should be set for fast multi-tasking and multimedia stuff.

try using linux, if you get a laptop with no os, and you have access to another computer you can buy a cd for a linux os (there are around 100 linux OSes) and then load it to your hard drive.

If you want a desktop to run on linux, use a playstation 3 and you can load the os as one of several linux oses. (It will still be able to run ps3 games and videos, but it will also be able to have a web browser, do word processing, etc.) The PS3 will actually be cheaper than any comparable desktop (very powerful processer) though it has a small hard drive (you could use an external hard drive though) I think you'll still have to use an OS cd though. And a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (maybe a usb one can work)

use ubuntu or yellowdog as an os, though you can switch between them fairly easy at any time.
It is kind of lacking in the applications section, though you can get programs like wine to be able to use windows programs on linux. though you can get several freeware applications (good ones too) for linux (openoffice.org)

Oh, and most of the OSes are free for any computer (PS3 included)

The mac book will give portability, but at a premium. You'll get much more bang for the buck going through another vendor (ie Dell). You'll also reduce the number of times you'll run into compatibility issues. Mac interacts with windows pretty well. The reverse is less true. You might find sharing file between yourself and others may prove challenging.
