Your coin was not minted at west point. You have a Winged Liberty Dime also referred to as a Mercury Dime.Mercury Dimes were minted at the following mints,Philadelphia,Denver and San Fransisco. The W on your coin, I assume stands for the designer 's last name Adolph Weinman.Your coin has a value of about $3.00.I hope this information helps answer your question.

Mirrorcoin has it right, the W is not a mint mark. The mint mark if any is on the left side at the bottom of the the fasces next to the E in one. The West Point mint did not start till 1984. The 1917 is valued at $1.30 in the grade of good- letters and date clear with weak rims. In grade fine $1.70 all sticks in fasces defined, diagonal bands worn nearly flat. $5.75 in grade extra fine only slight wear on diagonal bands, braids and hair before ear clearly visible. The above values are about what a dealer would pay. It has more historic value than monetary. It is a coin from the World War I era and if it could take may have some stories to tell. Hold on to it for the only place the value can go is up.

Value depends largely on the condition and scarcity of the coin. Value is also dependent on the current market demand.

Your best bet would be to take your coin to a local coin dealer. They will be able to tell you more by evaluating the condition of the coin. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market.

You can also post pictures on this website (there are many coin experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

Considering that the dime is from west point your coin should have some value to it. There are relatively few coins from the west point mint.
