We are supposed to make an astrolab and determine the angle of polaris. It has been so I can't read the angle so does anyone know? I don't know where to even look.
Thanks a ton!

It depends where you are. Polaris is the north star, very close to the celestial north pole. If you are at latitude 20 degrees north, Polaris is about 20 degrees above the north horizon. If you are at 50 degrees north, then it is about 50 degrees above the north horizon. If you are on the equator, or in the southern hemisphere, then you can't see it at all.

If you have a good astrolabe, then you should be able to read how far Polaris is from the celestial north pole ... less than 1 degree.

Look up the Latitude for the place you are in. Polaris should be that angle from the horizon. The actual Declination (Latitude) angle of Polaris is 89 degrees and 17 minutes. For all general calculation purposes it is considered to be 90 degrees.

You have to be more specific. SSpecify the angle you want the angle between polaris and what else and as seen from where?

The answer given by Morning Fox is correct. If you live at the Equator or in the Southern Hemisphere, you cannot even see it. However, since your teacher is assumed to be fairly smart, I doubt he or she would give you an assignment that cannot be performed.

If you live north of the equator the angle is your latitude.
