I have a 78 camaro that I am freshening the interior up in, the plastic panel on the dash that houses the heater controls and the ash tray was cracked, so I replaced it, I didnt have much trouble but the two screws that hold the panel to the dash that screw in above the heater controls stripped out the holes they go into, I made sure that the screws that came out went back in the same spot so I must have over tightened them, they were plastic holes so it was easy to do, what part of the dash do those screws go into? am I going to have to replace that or can I repair the screw holes? Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe you could try to use a little bit larger screw, that might bite back into the plastic

A screw with slighly bigger threads but the same head size may work or a trick I use on sheetmetal is to bend a thin piece of wire or paper clip into a "U" shape about a half inch long and place it into the hole so that the legs of the U are on both sides--front and back-- of the hole. This makes the hole slightly smaller because of the thickness of the wire and allows the screw to bite better. May work on plastic as well. And sometimes, there are little metal clips that go over the hole that the screw can thread into--parts stores may carry them....they have a U-shape with a hole in the center for the screw.

a bigger screw or try wrapping some small wire around the screw and put it in again and see if it will tighten.
