lametorg, you're correct, though history doesn't repeat itself, doesent offer clear cut examples, it doesn't mean it doesn't rhyme, nor does it mean that we can't learn from it

Opad, you are quite correct. Folks get confused with the labels, but the fascists were just a more nationalist version of capitalism, but the Nazi Fascists and the Italian Fascists were threats to the US because they threatened US hegemony, more successfully competing with European manufacterors and financiers (Warburgs, Rothschilds, Farben, etc) than were the US (Ford Motor, ITT, DuPont, etc)
Can we also approach the event more figuratively, FIre, as Bruce J suggests? And let's be civil, what?
Matgo64, 'terrorists' carried it out, and the question has less to do with whose 'terrorists' than it has to do with the marked change that occured in civil society the event soon justified with more restrictions (the Jews came later) to the civil population to 'protect' them.
Eater of Crayons, sorry, I see the two parties as factions of one party: the Business Party.

Fire, thank you for your input. You are correct. I could have picked other events. Pearl Harbor is an example of what is today called LIHOP, let it happen on purpose, which is what the US and British internal documents reveal was the case of the Japanese attack. The US had been blockading Japan, had cut off its oil supply, and was in many other ways spoiling for a fight with Japan. US and British intelligence had already broken the Japanese ‘purple’ code, and knew the attack was coming. Its galvanizing effect on the American people was noted, and stirred them to become involved in a war that had little benefit for the people who were going to die in it, but promised American industry a bright future in war manufacturing. What Americans have a difficult time coming to grips with, and why I chose the Reichstag as the parallel, is because instead of destroying the Nazi party and the SS, the US integrated it into its own intelligence apparatus, and used the information they had gathered to violently put down the anti-fascist forces that had developed underground all across Europe. Italy was the CIA’s first target, and it succeeded in destroying the resistance movements, and then restoring autocratic rule, many times placing the former Nazi collaborators in positions of political power, supported by the threat of US military intervention/occupation. The Reichstag fire was probably intentional and was done for power and political expediency.
911, despite the evidence that says it was an inside job -- I am still not convinced. However, inside or not, the end result is the war machine we have allowed to be created in this country in the name of God and apple pie is making a few inhuman people very rich.
When it comes to war and conflicts, follow the money first.
Next time something like that happens, I hope we don't have a cowboy that is covered in oil at the helm.
Peace

What might you name parallel those 2 incidents do not even come near. The 911 assault took hundreds of lives. The 1933 Reichstag's Fire occurred at night time, there was once just one character within the constructing a janitor and one character was once obvious and no longer mentioned going into the constructing with a torch. Bashing the President may not get you at any place. He's the chief of the quality nation for now. If you do not love it maybe you'll discover one more nation to name your possess. Bush isn't ideal, however wait neither are you. Have you ever concept approximately what form this nation might be in with if individuals such as you ran it? Be sincere. Pray for our leaders they're flesh and blood similar to any individual else. It is God that turns a person's or lady's middle. God bless America and all it is leaders in every single place in Jesus Name and preserve hold them from all unrighteousness. Father support our leaders to turn out to be all you've known as them to be in step with your plan for his or her lives. Amen

It has certainly been used to much the same effect that the National Socialist used the Reichstag's fire. Just not as obviously or as in your face. I believe that mainly that is because Americans have guns, whereas the Germans did not. Also the American people have the Internet where the Germans did not, so things here would of course have to go at a more gradual pace.
Kinda of like a frog, you can slowly boil it and it will just allow itself to be cooked, but if you attempt to just throw it into boiling water it will jump out. The idea is applicable here.

Okay, you've been watching Loose Change 9-11, haven't you?
For those of you who haven't seen it, go to:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7218920724339766288
Yes, there are a lot of unanswered questions about 9-11; however, drawing conclusions that implicate the US government in the 9-11 attacks isn't sound based on current information.
---------------------
Additional Details:
Okay, I admit that this response was a bit condescending, so I apologize for that. But from where I'm coming from, it certainly didn't lack civility, given the fact that the question itself compares the country I love to Nazi Germany.
People have a fascinating propensity to compare completely unrelated world events to Nazism to evoke a negative response, ultimately framing America as a villain and watering down the horrible legacy of World War II.
Why not compare America's recent military adventurism to something in America's own history that facilitated action, such as Pearl Harbor? If you were thinking figuratively? In fact, there are plenty of examples of military catylists throughout history that would have framed the question nicely without bringing Nazis into the picture.
Yes, 9-11 set the wheels turning for a number of events I decry. Yes, America's military adventurism bothers me and it's costing lives. Yes, I write to my representatives regularly to let them know how upset I am.
Unless you really believe America is becoming fascist, try a different figurative comparison, though. And you know how I can tell it's not fascist? I hate Bush's policies. I hope he gets removed from office before deciding to invade another country, but Congress is too impotent to impeach the liar. And, though I said this, I know nobody is going to knock on my door even asking questions. America is free.

In a way. Some of the consequences are remarkably similar. Total support for the war policy, invasion of another country, submission to totalitarian measures, suppression of civil liberties, deterioration of the economy.
There are many differences too.

No. Although....it might be easier if it were.
By that, I mean to say that other nations rose up to stop Germany when it became a police state. No one will stop the U.S. We won't be Nazi Germany. We will be 'Big Brother'.
