i'm a patriot because i love this country enough to speak my mind when things are screwed up. not just blindly follow a blibbering idiot bc he's in power. true patriotism is realizing when things are screwed up and having the balls to try and change it.

First, one would need to give some definition to what an American Patriot actually is. I suspect that almost everyone in America considers themselves a Patriot, but whether or not they are by others' standards is another question entirely. So your first step is, what IS a patriot?

I would turn to the Declaration of Independence. It's a rather short document. Look for the sentence that begins "We hold these truths to be self-evident:" Now, what that means is that the statements which follow do not need proof, and simply are true because they cannot be otherwise. This part describes the legitimate purpose of governments, and describes what they were later to try and create with the Constitution.

At the end of the document, there appears the phrase that describes the meaning of the act of signing this document. It says they pledge their lives, wealth, and honor to this. That's how much they believed in it.

If a person is willing to take that same pledge, they can call themselves a patriot. I have, so I do.

Well, for starters, think of things that you like about America. It doesn't have to be fancy, it doesn't have to be exclusive to America, but it could be.

You could get detailed and do some research on the constitution, find sections that you particularly agree with and include those in your essay, and then elaborate on them and explain why you agree with them (for example, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to a speedy trial, the right to a jury of your peers, and the right not to be forced to testify against yourself in a criminal trial)

you could also just stick with things you are already familiar with, such as the ability to make a living doing whatever you want to do, the ability to make money with hardwork and perserverence, or even just how you feel about your neighborhood, or your family.
