It also depends on the book you read, as well, because different authors place different emphasises on their work. For some, the narrative will give you most of your information. For others, the dialogue will give you far more then the narrative would.

That depends entirely on your writing style and who you ask. Hemingway would have said dialogue. Someone like Twain would have said narrative. I think they are equally important. You can give readers information through either technique. Pax - C
