the question is: what is the diferance between an expression and an equation? give an example of each.

an expression is a statement to simplify and has no equals sign.
an equation is a statement to find what the variable is and has an equals sign.

eg.
expression: 2x+4y+8x-y (simplify)
equation: 2x+4y+8x-y=7 (find x and y)

The difference is that an equation has an equals sign.

expression: 2x^2 + 3x + 7

equation: 2x^2 + 3x + 7 =0

An expression is something that doesn't have an equal sign. For example, 5x / 4.

An equation is something that does have an equal sign. For example, 2x = 4.
