At what age do we first start remembering our world and our place in it? Before that, can we honestly say that we were truly conscious of anything? Are you sure?

Mine was from when i was 2...got a kitty. I actuayl remember the house, and it was late(or atleast dark) when I just ran outta bed to this cat that came in...we gotta kitty?

I was outta diapers, and verbal(imperssive for a premie huh?) by then. my dad came home from his night job, so i guess it had to be like, 4am.

It's hard to say that we are "conscious" of anything before we can remeember becasue all the memeories are there, but we cannot retreive htem....after 1, i think most people are self aware, but usualy they do not form long term memories very well, or just forget because of all the new crap going in to the undeveloped brain

actually i remember the day exactly. it was really weird because i would refer to my parents as mom and dad and know the things i had and people, and at the same time i thought "how do i know that is mom how did i know this was that. its like my consciousness had no recollection of everything but my unconsciousness did. i was about 3 i think. and for some reason i remember that day very vividly.

so to answer your question i assume we have no consciousness of anything before that, but we still hold all of the information in our subconsciousness somehow and can use it.
i am very sure.

My earliest memory was before I could talk. My mind was really fuzzy and I was pretty confused about everything, but I laughed a lot. I remember my parents talking to me, and I could sort of understand some of what they were saying, but not very much. I understood based on concepts, sounds, and images, not words.

The memories are of when my father picked me up, and I didn't want him to, so I bit him, and of waking up one morning with a new blanket that smelled unfamiliar.

I remember eating popcorn off the floor when I was 3 and getting in wicked trouble. It's difficult, in hindsight, to describe when you were aware and when you were just starting to make long-term memories, though.

The earliest memory I'm sure of was when my dad punched my mom in the face when I was 4(?) and I told him that if he ever did that again I'd kill him in his sleep.

He never hit her again.
