I found a product at a trade show that I would like to copy and sell myself. I loved the idea. Could I make it the exact same or how much do I need to change it to not get in trouble?

It's a myth about the 'change it 10% and it's mine' rule, it never stands up in court when the original designer presses charges against product theft.

There's a difference between a knockoff (a product that is really similar to the original being copied, but different in a noticeable way- think those knockoff coach purses that have the g's instead of the c's they sell in the mall), and true copies of a product. For a knockoff it's very unlikely the copyright holder will go after you for copyright infringement, and if they do you at least have a case. But if you try to make a perfect copy of a product and sell it as your own, you could get in alot of trouble. Add your own spin to it to be safe.
