The Stand by Stephen King. A classic tale of good versus evil set in modern times only the way King can write. Very scary at times but uplifting througout. You root for the good guys with hoots....

You can see from this:
http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com
that it is The Hobbit. Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book, and a "reader's choice" list of favorite books.
I hope this helps.

I of course love the Harry Potter series, but I also like Philippa Gregory and Jean Plaidy. "The Autobiography of Henry VIII" by Margaret George was good too.
