You don't really have to learn how to breastfeed. The baby already knows what to do. Its easy but extremely uncomfortable. Of course, pumping isn't any better. I breastfed my son for a couple of weeks and then switched over to pumping most of the time. My milk supply did not diminish at all when I switched to pumping. If you don't feel comfortable breastfeeding, then pumping is the next best alternative. Either way just make sure your baby gets breastmilk. My kids are 5 & 7 now and between the two of them have been to the doctor less than 5 times because they were actually sick. Breastmilk does a great job boosting the immune system.

Why would you want to do that much work? What a pain in the butt.

Yes, it can be hard to keep up production because the pump does not empty the breast completely. Meeting demand over the course of a year can be hard since you have to pump sooo much sooo often and the breast never gets completely emptied.

Beyond that, you lose the benefit of providing you child with antibodies for the things theyre fighting. The baby's saliva causes the breast to manufacture antibodies at the point of the breast for the child. They'd still get antibodies for the things you have and have had, but not at the times when they need it most. Like say, when they get their vaccines.

Beyond that, you lose the benefit of avoiding ear infections and proper jaw and mouth development.

Just breast feed like usual, its infinitely easier.

im going to breastfeed from the boob for a while, then start pumping it, and just doing it back and forth, let him on one boob, and pump while hes feeding, then ill have milk for the next feeding, that way in case i have to go anywhere i have milk for him. I think him going on the breast will help your supply so thats why im going to do half and half, its all about supply and damand!
