Why do we have to pay this? Most of us pay for digital viewing anyway. And when they shut down analogue tv, will we still be expected to pay for a 'license'?

Robert C: I don't know you from Adam. And if not wanting to pay a stealth tax makes me a peasant, then so be it. By the way you're blocked.

No it's completely unfair and ridiculous.
If they want to charge for BBC then it should be something you pay to receive like sky. I should be able to buy a TV and choose not to have the BBC channels. They don't own the rights to TV's!!

They won't just remove the TV licence without imposing some other tax. The licence pays for much more than the TV broadcasting; and you have to wonder why it costs so much more for Sky, who charge to watch, but also get commercial income. I have to admit, I rather like watching TV without the constant interruptions from adverts.
However, just today I was looking hopefully for the Women's World Cup Football match between England and Japan in the BBC listings. If they are truly trying to bring us an even-handed broadcasting service, that doesn't only broadcast for ratings, you have to wonder why they are completely ignoring the English national team who have qualified for the World Cup. Is it because they are women? And if this is the reason, are they really following the BBC charter the way they should? (It's on Eurosport, if anyone's interested)

the fact is, the government want as much money as they can, charging you for anything.
From an economics point of view its because everybody cant have everything want, if it were free more people could afford it and the materials used to build a TV would get used up quicker, which would probably make the TV ands its materials a scarce resource. Also many materials used in a TV are used elsewhere so it would get used up quicker.
If everything was free then we would have run out of a lot of things by now.
Once the government find a way to start charging us for Oxygen they'll do that too.

The licence is antiquated and should be done away with. Their is so much money wasted by the BBC and huge bonuses are paid out each year even to under achievers. The standard of programme has gone down and the Corporation has lost its way. Let it be self financing through sponsorship and advertising. Other channels have to.

In this day and age there is no place for the TV Licence.
Everyone should have the choice to choose what channels they want on their TV - like SKY TV.
No one should be forced - under threat of fines or imprisonment - to pay for a licence when purchasing a TV.
It is antiquated and wrong.
People don`t believe that we have to purchase a licence when purchasing a TV in the UK.
It is Legalised Theft.

Take it you mean a licence.
If we didn't pay for the BBC,where else would we get programmes from? Nearly everything n TV is stuff that the BBC produced from years back.
I'd sooner pay a few pence a week for all the radio stations and advert free television, than to watch 20 minutes of every hour cluttered up with adverts.

We pay the TV tax to support an antiquated pro government organisation, should be challenged in euro court.
despite giving you a criminal record you cant get legal aid to defend yourself, what other company in the world is funded by compulsory donations from the public.
You cant even disable the BBC and only watch the other channels, it is perverse.

Considering television is a part of the daily discusion of our societys pollitical future and also a possible warning devise for our people in the case of a weather disaster or otherwise then it should be available to everyone. Not just those that can afford a licence.

You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, set-top boxes, video or DVD recorders, computers or mobile phones to watch or record TV programmes as they are being shown on TV.
If you use a set-top box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.
Fair or not that is the law, check it yourself on TV Licencing home page.
