The mean is one type of average (the one most commonly thought of as 'the average') though.

It is found by summing all values and dividing this by the number of values

A mean is an average in a series of numbers.

Simply, you just take the sum of all the numbers and divide it by the number of numbers in the set.

For example: In the set 3, 8, 10; the average is 7, because 3+8+10=21, and 21/3=7.

The mean is the average. Basically you take all the numbers, add them together and divide by the amount of numbers there are.

For example: the mean of 5 and 7 would be:
5 + 7
--------- = 6
2

Hope this helps!

The mean is also known as an average. a mean/average = the sum of all the values / (the # of values given)

For example say you're given a set of data that contains 3 values: 10, 15, 20

The average is: (10 +15 + 20) / (3) = 15

You used 3 because you were given 3 values.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Mary
