Last week on my kids first day of school, I went to pick my son up from kindergarden, thinking it was a half day, long story short it was a full day, but in the mean time as I was thinking it was half day and I was outside waiting, another kindergarden class room's door was wide opened and noone in the class and a little boy just came out on his own and was walking to the playgrounds all by himself, I approached him and he told me he lost his teacher, so I took him to the principal's office and I expalined to them what happened. Now throughtout the weekend I been thinking about this and it frightens me that it could have been my son, the teacher should have never left his class room door wide opened like that, I think they should have some kind of policy on that rule, and the school never informed the parents of that child. Should I make it a point to tell the boys parents or should I mind my own buisness?

I would definitely talk to the principle about this matter. Not only should the child be unsupervised but having the door left unlocked in today's society is dangerous! What if some child molester were to just walk right in? Make an appointment with the principle and discuss your concerns with him/her. Be nice about it though because if your kid's only in kindergarten,he's got a long way to go before he's out of that school and that's just more time that you'll have to deal with them! Good luck!!

I wouldn't blame you one bit for speaking up about this. That's horrible! Thing is though, you'll never be able to find out who his parents are unless you wait for him after school one day and hope a parent picks him up and approach them. Or, if he's walking, you could follow him home but you don't want to look obvious. The school will never tell you where the parents live. You could also go to a one of those council meetings the school has once in awhile and bring it up as a subject (can't remember the names of those meetings!). Good luck and remember, you're doing the right thing. I'm sure TONS of other parents would want to know this info and the school should look hard and long at their policies.

I had a similar experience. When my daughter was in kindergarden, btw, it was a private school, I arrived about 5 minutes late picking her up. As I drove into the parking area, I saw my daughter walking away from the school crying. I stopped and picked her up and asked her what was wrong. She said that she was scared b/c no teacher was around and she thought she had to walk home. We lived about 6 miles from the school. I was furious! I went to the school and went off on the teacher and principal. So to answer your question, Yes, you tell the parents and all the people that are responsible for that child.

Contact the boy's parents and suggest a joint appearance before the school board. You'rs is a most reasonable concern and would formulate into a reasonable proposal. Hit around potential for lawsuits "if anything ever happened" - that always gets results out of a bureuacracy.

I believe so. You can always tell anonomosly. Kids at that young of age shouldn't be wandering around alone. Even in a school where it is supposed to be safe. Also when I was in elementary school we usually had two teachers per classroom so that one could leave and there would still be a supervisor. So yes, tell. Like you said you don't want your son to be in that situation.

As a parent the welfare of your child and the children are the
responsibility of the school...You notified the Principal's
office. Stop! how do U know the school never notified the
parents. Dont make this a single parent - crusade, u'll get crushed. .Attend the next PTA meeting, it is this place, the
issue of wandering, unattended children/child be address.
You need not mention names, just say the principal's office,
will address that question, it is as a concerned parent...I ask
this board to address. I dont know specifics, but address
again the PTA in regards to this safety concern...2bz...

It is very great that you are concerned about this issue, and you are very right! you should tell the office, but if you are a strong writer you should write them a letter and a petition of all the parents who agree with you!
The people at the school will hopefully take action, and i hope i helped good luck!

I think you should tell the boys parents. Think if someone else knew your kid was running around by himself looking for his teacher & some other person knew - you would want them to tell you if it was your son, so you should tell them because they will want to know too. And they can talk to the school about it too.
