Well, first of all you have to multiply 115.92 by 0.05. You take the answer to that and subtract it from 115.92 and this will give you the weekly pay before raise. Because he works 12 hours a week, you then divide the number by 12.

And the answers should be: 110.12(4) for the weekly pay before the raise and 9.18 dollars for the hourly pay before the raise.

Hope this is correct and helpful!

The easy way to deal with % raises is to assume that the amount before the raise was 100% and after the raise 105%.

% simply means "over a hundred" so that when expressed as a decimal number, 100% is 1 and 105% is 1.05

(In the same way 5% = 5/100 = 0.05)

If 115.92 represents 105%, How much is 100%?

115.92 * 100/105 (same as 115.92 divided by 1.05).

To find the hourly rate, divide the answer by 12 (the number of hours that gave him his weekly pay).

if you think about it logically,
£115.92 = 105%
therefore, 115.92/105 = 1%
and (115.92/105) x 100 = 100%
this is for 12 hours, so:

(115.92/105) x 100 / 12 is his hourly pay before the rise
= £9.20

does that make sense?

ps - the brackets arent nec, just wanted to make the logic clear

105 % = 115.92

'thus'

1 % = 115.92 / 105

'so'

100 % = 100 * 115.92 / 105 = 110.40

, his weeh is 12 hours so his hourly pay before rais was 110.40 / 12 = ...
