i have to write a paragraph on what it has to do with physics. and i just cant seem to make anything stretch into a paragraph. I figured a sentence would sum it up....

It relates to gravity, which is entirely to do with physics.

Well, you can figure out how far the egg will be falling from and then calculate the momentum of the egg before impact and see if you can build something that can absorb the shock.

Also, it is a problem solving exercise. It gets people to thinking about how to use materials to get the job done.

Finally, it is an easy, fun exercise for the class to do. Lots of teachers like to do this one because most kids like the challenge.

I used to do outreach programs for a museum and this was something we did sometimes. Ours was a bit different. We had a bunch of different supplies the kids could choose from and each had a "price". The kids were given an imaginary budget to work with. Whichever team had the lowest budget egg-protector that actually saved the egg would win a prize.

The best one that I ever saw done involved only three pieces of paper, some string, and some tape. Two pieces were taped together longways. Slits were cut in this along the length. String was attached to this to make it into a parachute. The third piece of paper was folded into a cone and the string was attached to it. The egg sat in the cone. The idea was that the parachute would slow the egg but not enough to prevent cracking. The cone was supposed to buckle on impact and absorb the damage. The kid who made it had the lowest budget out of any of the classes we did and his egg survived.

It does relate to gravity, also makes you thing a little more like an engineer.

More importantly, it is an activity that can be used to make physics class a little more hands on and "fun" without expensive equipment so it is used a lot.

I put "fun" in quotes because I never cared for physics :)

also this could be about physics because you have to think about where the forces of impact will be displaced thoughout the entire egg

it has to do with gravity and air resantce and motoin if you used a para chute then that are restance if you used pading that is motoin because the pad has to flex and gravity because it has to fall and its fun
