I can still remember a lot of things you could buy with a quarter but those days are long gone. The only thing I can think of now is one of those stand candy machines where you put the quarter in, turn the knob and it drops like 3 M&M's down the chute and while you are trying to get them out, you will proceed to drop at least one of them on the floor and I don't trust that 5 second rule!!!

The only thing I've seen is still those things in the gumball machine!
Besides that, the only thing you can buy for a quarter is 25 pennies.

sometimes bouncy balls too
for 30 cents you can buy a five piece stick of gum
pencils at Staples (they had this deal running the other day a pack of 8 pencils for 1 cent!)
folders
20 cent binders at staples
and some other stuff that I can't think of right now! lol

You cannot even use the payphone for a quarter here, it just went up to 50 cents.

Something out of one of those little candy and toy machines in front of a store.
Walmart has 25 cent soda machines in front of their stores but its Sam's Choice brand though.
