1)
From 1.5 m

2)
Hits ground when h = 0
2t² - 3t - 1.5 = 0
4t² - 6t - 3 = 0
t = [6 ± √(36 + 48) ] / 8
t = [ 6 ± √(84) ] / 8
t = [6 ± 2√(21)] / 8
t = 3/4 ± (1/4)√(21) sec
t = 1.9 sec (taking + ve value for t)

3)
h `(t) = 3 - 4t = 0 for max h
t = 3/4 secs
h(3/4) = 1.5 + 9/4 - 18/16
h(3/4) = 1.5 + 18/16
h(3/4) = 42 / 16
h(3/4) = 21 / 8
Greatest height = 21 / 8 m

a) h when t=0 is the starting point.
h=1.5+3(0)-2(0)^2
h= 1.5
b) t when h=0 is when the ball hits the ground
0=1.5=3t-2t^2 and solve for t as a quadratic equation.
Giving t=
c) differentiate dh/dt
dh/dt=3-4t
Max occurs when dh/dt=0
0=3-4t
Giving t=

You can solve the equations!

I'm not going to give you the solutions, but:-

1. Set t=0.

2. Let h=0 which will produce a quadratic equation. You will have to use the quadratic formula or complete the square. I assume you know this, if you don't, go back to your GCSE Higher textbook.

3. Do your calculus : dh/dt. Then calculate dh/dt=0.

I hope this helps. Here are the answers but it will be beneficial for you to do the working out yourself.

Answers:-

h=-2 t^2+3 t+1.5

1.5 meters

0=1.5+3t-2t^2
2t^2 -3t -1.5 = 0
t= (-2 +/- sqrt(9+12))/4
t=(-2 + 4.582)/4 = .645 seconds

3-4t=0
4t=3
t=.75 seconds
h=1.5 +3(.75)-2(.75)(.75)
h=1.5+2.25+1.125
h=4.875 meters

1) the answer is the constant in the equation, i.e. the amount with no x value

2) set the equation equal to zero and find the non-negative answer for t

3) graph the parabola and find the highest point.
