Yes, I used to do that all the time. But you really have to watch it or it will burn. Plus you would get splattered with grease that leaked out of the top. This was before the Microwave popcorn. But I also use my hot air popper, it works just as well and no grease. They also had the small Jiffy Pop like the the ones you used to use over a campfie with the aluminum like covering that would expand. However I never did like the taste of those. If I'm really in a hurry for popcorn I just use the Microwave type.

I sure did. This was always a treat for my children. I had a special pan just for popcorn. We did this a lot on Saturday when I was able to spend quality time with my kids. Somehow, the popcorn tasted better the old way. I would also pop it just before we watched some television.

We would take it outside and eat the whole pan of popcorn. What a wonderful reminder of days gone by. The scent of that popcorn was so mouth-watering.

Yes, when I don't use the microwave, that is how I pop it. A regular sauce pan with the lid and a little oil over medium heat, just keep moving it like you said. It tastes great. I don't buy Jiffy Pop. I buy either microwave popcorn or the regular popcorn.

still make it this way every time we have it -- that's pretty often since popcorn is one of the few snack foods that my husband can eat.
as a matter of fact, the pan that we use was part of a set that we bought my mother when i was about 14. it's 34 years old (at least) and still works for what it was intended. we call it "the popcorn pan" and it doesn't get used for anything elsethe pans you buy nowdays are so thin that they can't tolerate the high heat needed for popping corn. had an air popper for a while, didn't like it because the salt wouldn't stick. don't care much for microwave either, too much "butter flavoring"

Oh yes, I remember that vividly. Then they came out with Jiffy Pop, then those Air Poppers. We used to get the popcorn in bags like pasta is in, for the pan method, did you?

That is how I ALWAYS make popcorn (if it isn't microwaved). The important part is getting the oil hot enough to smoke before turning the element down to 3/4 and then adding the popcorn.

Yes many times, and its a lot better than the jiffy pop or the micro wave stuff.

Yes, I did many years ago while growing up. We didn't always have Jiffy Pop in our home, so I did it the old fashioned way.

It is the only kind I make, because the popcorn in the bags have trans fats, and I try to avoid those. Just like we did before the modern "contraption" of the microwave!

Also, it is much cheaper to do it that way

Absolutely. In fact I have picked and shelled popcorn and then popped it on the stove...now I want popcorn.
