At some stores, you can buy one thing at full price and the second at a penny.
You can still buy a wish in a pond.
You can still pick it up heads up and have good luck or heads down give it to someone else and give them good luck as well as yourself.
You can wear it in a pair of loafers (if you can find a pair) and have good luck.
You can put it in a woman's shoe for a wedding and give her good luck.
I guess the penny hasn't been placed out of circulation because of the hope of good luck.

Some stores in small towns still have this thing called 'penny candy.' So every tiny little piece of candy costs a penny. I think that's about it.

Check out craigs list. If all you want to spend is a penny, there is all kinds of stuff on there. You can even save that penny on all kinds of cool stuff (free).
