I think people look back on rock & roll of the past with great fondness and appreciation. Do you think anyone in the future will believe this generation created a talented art form in rap music with any appreciation? Or do you believe they wasted their efforts on something that will be viewed as garbage?

OK, I hate rap and I probably always will. But I have to admit you can't possibly view ALL rap as garbage, there are songs with a strong message to deliver. But, do I think P.I.M.P by 50 Cent will ever be considered good music? For the sake of humanity I sure hope not. That and many others just like it (most of the music is just like it) are pure and absolute garbage in my eyes. I sincerely hope it will be seen as such.
I mean, we have come to our senses about artists from the past, such as Back Street Boys, Milli Vanilli, etc (or at least many of us have), so maybe in the future rap will be seen for the garbage it really is.
Violent, sexist, homophobic, crap.

Some people will indeed look back on rap with fondness and appreciation. Remember it starts when people who've got nothing better to do start talking fast over music, so there will always be people who'll think 'Remember when a kid could be a star just by talking fast over music... Ah those were the days'. Personally I can't stand rap and I think it is garbage, but the fact that it is still around when it should really have died out about 1991 show that unfortunately there will always be a demographic who follow it.

I mean how many people are doing soul these days? Hardly any in comparison. You've got to have talent for soul (as well as having soul itself, of course).

Think of it as disco. Some people say it's garbage, some stand by it. You can never tell about the future.

No one did say rap was talent. Because basically, rappers are producers who'd rather give it than share it.

It makes me wonder why everyone does pick on rap, though.

I think that the old school rap will be more respected as it is now. The rap music today generally is garbage.

I personally think that early rap (basically all rap befoer '96) will be highly appreciated, but after '96, rap started to become diluted and it was basically, " I can rhyme two words in a sentence and i get girls, so i'm a superstar" as opposed to "what lyrics can i add to this music" (and i mention music because new rap doesn't have ANY of it)

so yes, it will be looked upon, but not all of it

Well considering plenty of the people in this section appreciate artists who were from before they were born Yes I think they will because rather than Rock n Roll in many cases Hip Hop is a description and reflection of life and the times we live in therefore making it more historically beneficial.

There's bound to be someone who will look back with fondness...I, however view it as garbage...in fact, it's a stretch to consider it music.

There needs to be a special category for it..like "LBand D"
" Loud, Brash and Disturbing"

It is garbage. Always will be, and will always be viewed as such. Even the people who are into it now, will one day say, "What was I thinking?" Yeah, nigs, step down.
