I feel very strongly about being an American. Sometime I even feel that I am better than others because i'm an American, despite all my short commings. Is this a bad thing?

I don't think it is "bad"

But it is becoming pretty delusional.

This country WAS once the greatest country on earth, but our politicians and special interest groups have been doing a pretty banged up job of ruining it.

And if your spelling is indicative of your "superior" American public school education, it is pretty telling too.

it's not your fault. With all the constant patriotic nonsense that your media drum into you, it's understandable.
But what you should realise is that people hate your country for a reason.
Your president is essentially a war criminal.
The fact that all your news is censored does nothing to help you understand that perhaps there is a hell of a lot wrong with your country.
For example, take Canada, your next door neighbours who do not have half the violent crime which your country has. They don't constantly spout on about being the 'best country in the world'.
The sooner you realise that not everyone wants to be like you, the better.

Being an American is in most cases an accident of birth. The notion that being an American makes one better than anyone else indicates a lack of travel.

Nationalism can separate people.
J.W's exist in 235 lands. They are J.W's first and members of a country second.
Any J.W. can travel to ANY country and know they will be welcome in the home Of ANY OTHER J.W.
IT COMPLIES WITH JESUS' ADMONITION TO HAVE LOVE AMONG YOURSELVES.
Not too many religious organisation can claim that...worldwide.

I don't think jingoism is ever a good thing. It's jingoism when your pride leads you to think you are somehow better than other citizens of the world.
