I think so. It's not so much a problem for responsible citizens to perhaps know everything and not have any secrets kept from them. The problem is that if everyone knows everything then sensitive information may fall in to the hands of someone intending to do harm with it. An example: the nuclear launch codes: I have no need to know what they are, and wouldn't be able to use it for anything that I want to do so why should anybody share that information with me? But, I am glad that somebody does know.
There is a level of trust that we must place in our elected representatives, and if you don't have that level of trust, then you need to vote them out.
COMPLETE openness could be a VERY DANGEROUS thing.

After seeing some of the stuff I see on Yahoo answers, I wish they would keep more stuff a secret.

YES, and we should all be glad that they do. How would you like to know every military secret? How would you like to be aware of every bit of military research? First, it would mean that you and your family are prime targets for assassination or kidnapping or some such thing. It would also mean that the rest of us, me and my friends who don't want to know such things, would want you to be something more than an average citizen who goes to work or school every day and lives in anytown, USA. You need to be protected so that my security is protected!
It's called "National Security" and it's a REAL THING!!! Our nation's security IS important, as our lives depend on it. We have a gonvernment in place to handle "National Security" so we can go about our daily lives; learning, living, growing, working, playing, etc. It's a wonderful thing, really.
SO, relax, enjoy your life, and be thankful that their are people in place who know things that you don't know and are doing things that nobody else wants to so we can keep on enjoying life......

Yes. Because your duly elected representatives have enacted laws that do so because they felt it was necessary to protect the nation.
