I have to read this 60 page packet (typed on both front and back pages) so about 120 pages for Thursday. It's on the artist, Caravaggio. I'm just curious how you would go about doing something like that. Do you skim? Highlight? Listen to music while you read? What do you do?

Don't read every word. You can understand it by only reading the key words in a sentance. Read 1 or 2 pages then take some notes on the key impression you got. Just a sentence or two. I take a piece of paper and place it under one line at a time so I am focused on only the sentace I am reading and slide it down the page as you go. Your brain can absorb more than you think it can and faster. So you should be sliding the paper down to the next line in a slow steady pace. Your skimming should keep up or your reading to many words. Just look at key words.

At first write your 1 or 2 sentances of notes of your impression of what you read 1 page at a time until you get better at it. Then move to 2 pages before your notes. A target time would be no more than 3 mins. per page. 5 mins. max.

At the end study your notes not the pages. This would give you enough information you could have a decent discussion on the matterial. No one in this short of time can do any better. I believe if you do it this way you will actually know more than the others on the same assignment.

I would as mentioned in an earlier, break it down into how many days and divide. Read that amount for the day. The next day, skim over what you read the previous day and highlight anything that stands out, read the next amount for the day and repeat the above steps the next days. This will help you to retain what you have read. It really helps me a lot to review, review and review. Music would distract me, but what has worked for me is some kind of back-round noise like a television turned down in the next room. You just have to figure out what works for you. Also try to make yourself comfortable, make sure the lighting is good and that you have a comfortable temperature.

I would read it and jot n otes as I read. I would set a linit of how much to be read each night and I would reward myself as I completed a set amount.

For instance, tonight is Monday, I'd read 60 pages tonight (because you're more likely to have more energy tonight - the first night). I'd give myself a break after every 20 pages. Maybe a candy bar or snack after each group of 20.

Tomorrow night, Tuesday, I'd read 40 pages. Don't foget to take notes. And reward yourself after every 15 pages or so.

Wednesday night, I'd read the remaining 20 pages. Reward yourself for finishing. Also, recopy all your notes, so if there's anything you have forgotten, you can go back and look it up.

Good luck! :)

I usually like to listen to music while I'm reading something that i don't particularly enjoy reading so that i can focus and tune everything out.
Yes, i skim!
And if all else fails i skip pages and just look for things in bold or titles, or italicized words that stand out.

Good luck!

I would start at page one and go from there. Seriously though, some people find music helpful. Personally, I find it distracting, but its really just a matter of how you work.

You'd probably have better memory retention if you highlighted and did all that, but it would take quite a bit longer. Depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

You just skim through it and read what is important. OR
you can set goals for each day. You can divide the pages by the number of days you have available to read. You also have to set a good amount of time to read and make sure there are no distractions.

Never listen to anything while reading. Start on page one and read through. Should take a little over an hour.

Get a pad and pencil, start reading on page 1, take notes that I can easily refer back to without having to look for my highlights.

Although I enjoy it quite a bit, I always found that listening to music is distracting to me; I'm always focused on the words of the song or what song is playing.

Simply just read when you have nothing else to do, and bring it everywhere with you... Car rides, in between classes, right before bed... Seriously, everywhere.

well seeing as u have to have it read i would break it up into time increments lets say 30 min a couple times a day until its done. id highlight what u consider important facts and no i have to have quiet when i read or else i cant concentrate.
