For you ladies who have given birth: What do you think about these celebrities having "planned" c-sections? I am talking about the ones like Angelina Jolie who did not medically NEED a csection, but had one anyway for convenience?

*sigh* Ok let me clarify for you mental giants.....I am referring to ANY WOMAN who has an unnecessary c-section. I simply reference celebrities because we have all heard of them, while most of us haven't heard of your aunt phyllis and her planned csection.

I am a nurse in Labor and Delivery and have seen both. I also have 3 kids. The recovery for a vaginal delivery is just a couple of days. You are up and about in an hour. The recovery for a c section is weeks. The pain is severe and it takes about 12-24 hours before you can painfully get out of bed.

Remember, with a c section, the doctor is cutting the abdominal wall muscles (your core). I do not recommend a c section, I would rather endure labor and have a vaginal delivery. I hate the women who have c sections for "vaginal preservation".

I don't really understand why anyone would CHOOSE to have a c-section. I don't think there is anything "convenient" about it. Unless they think a longer recovery and added dangers are convenient? In my opinion, there are WAY too many c-sections in the U.S ( Maybe other places as well, I wouldn't know) period. I think too many doctors are pushing for c-sections because it's convenient for THEM, and they make more money. I had a c-section, because I was on pitosin, in active labor for several hours, and was not making any progress. Afterwards though, I realized that there were other things that could have been done to prevent a c-section. They didn't even break my water! The c-section rate has gone up SO much. C-sections used to be a last resort, now they do a c-section over any little thing. It's crazy. Something really should be done, and women should be more informed about their options, before they are pushed into c-sections.

I think it poses more risk for infection. My first was a C-section because of prolonged labor and I wasn't progressing up to the doctor's standards.

My second son was a C-section because I was told that it's hard to deliver vaginally after a C-section.

While I am very blessed to have two healthy happy boys now, I wish I was able to experience REAL child birth! To this day, I still have no feeling in the lower part of my abdomin. Thanks, a lot C-section!

I hate the fact that celebrities and other women out there have the option of getting a C section or not.

I am completely against anyone having a planned c section. Why would anyone choose to have major abdominal surgery when their bodies are made for child bearing. At least give you and your baby a chance to have a normal delivery before throwing in the towel. Most women don't realize you have 6 weeks of painful recovery plus all the regular recovery that you would have had with a normal vaginal delivery. On top of that, you're on pain meds which could interfere with breastfeeding and the delivery itself puts infants at a higher risk of breathing problems. I just had my second baby about 11 days ago, both deliveries were vaginal, and I was up out of bed not 20 minutes later doing whatever. I'm completely recovered now - woulnd't have babies any other way.

Personally, I don't care about Hollywood gossip, but I understand your referencing.

C-sections are not natural and they scare me. The natural labor and birthing process, the way God intended is natural. Sure, there will be some pain, but the end result is worth it. I am also going to do everything within my power to not even have drugs. j

To me, scheduling a C-section to "fit' the mother's schedule just seems self-centered, as though the mother is more concerned about her life and her schedule to be concerned about what the baby might want.

I'm ready for my baby when she, rather, when God, decides it's time for her to come. Yes, I'm tired of being pregnant. I want to meet my daughter. However, I have learned that God's time is much better than my time. I will take the meds and the C-section as last resorts.

If I had a choice I would have had my children naturally. Having a C-Section is major surgery and you can have more complications from this than having a child naturally. I think that if you do not have time to wait for the baby, you should not have gotten pregnant in the 1st place-money or no money.

Well, I don't think women should have C-Sections if they don't medically need them. It seems kinda silly to have a major abdominal surgery if you don't need to have it. Especially when our bodies were made for creating life/giving birth. However, I do believe Angelina's baby was breech. As was mine, I also had to have a C-Section. My Doctor wouldn't consider any other methods for my breech baby.

I think they must be scared of vaginal birth, but seriously having yourself cut open is much worse in my opinion. Maybe it's a matter of control or something. It's not healthy though and has several more risks for the baby and the mother. Plus a longer recovery time.

Can't say one way or the other about some of them... but having a planned c-section without medical necessity is not a smart thing, it IS MAJOR surgery. My c-section was unplanned. (In Angelina's defense, I thought Shiloh was breeched?)
