I think everyone has insecurity's at some point in their lives but i think its more about the person they are as a whole really, Each person deals with things in a different way. Some judge out of not understanding, some from lack of sympathy, some because its what they've been taught and some because they see something they don't like about themselves in others too.

tell her you're tired of her bragging and when she starts talking about herself just jump in and change the topic. if that doesn't work after a while just ignore her. bragging is only fun when someone is paying attention.

Maybe you can tell her you know this girl who always brags about herself and you got so annoyed that you felt like you couldn't be friends anymore. See if she gets the hint.
