In no particular order:
John Sykes - big, meaty, riffs and a great song writer
Ace Frehley - not the most gifted player, but he's got a style that can't be denied
Joe Perry - the personification of the word "cool"
Lindsey Buckingham - love his playing, hate is experimental, "artistic", egocentric attitude
Doug Aldrich - the perfect combination of Randy Rhoads style and John Sykes substance... an absolute monster of a pairing with David Coverdale
Stevie Ray Vaughn - no comments necessary... and I was a fan before his tragic death, so no dead hero worship going on here

Steve Howe of Yes and Asia. He is a seemingly limitless well of musical expression. He also executes his craft with a depth of emotion that I have yet to hear from ANYone else in music. I highly recommend his work to anyone who loves guitar music.

If you want your son to be a great guitarist, name him Steve. Some of my other favorites are Steve Miller and Stephen Stills.
