If you have more than one partition (c: d: e: f: etc) backup everything you want to keep on the non windows partitions.
Then... get your windows xp disc and reinstall (format the windows vista partition)

You'll have to install everything again afterwards. But you don't lose any files.

First backup all your information on an external hard drive, portable data device or just use data Cd's. Than your going to need to reinstall your xp os providing that you have the xp os disc. You should be fine after that. Also you may want to create a system restore point once you get xp up and running so in case something like this happens again you can change it back easily.

If you have a backup device like an external hard drive you could copy your data to the backup device then reload XP from the
install discs. You will have to reload any software applications you have like Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
The install will reformat the hard drive destroying any data on the drive.

You can purchase an external drive that plugs into the UBS port for apprx. $40 - $60.

Good Luck.
