Ok heres the story, i go to bed one night and my hermet crabs are just fine, i wake up and one of them is completely out of his shell and grey and his legs are all over the tank (completely severed from his shell and his body)? He's dead right? and how did this happen? The tank also smells bad, which leads me to believe he's dead. I do have a cat but the tank is shut completely and my cat has no claws. What do you think?

I'd read over this site to find out what could have happened to him--something wasn't right to begin with. :(

I had hermit crabs, but never heard of that. Maybe it's not dead but just molted, if that's the case leave him alone and he'll go back into his shell after he eats his shell.

The other hermit crab killed him. I had this happen. They say they get along, but sometimes they don't.
