Where did the Maya's and Aztecs reside in Mexico?

Can you name a particular city or state....something that can help me point out where most of them stayed.

The geographic extent of the Maya civilization extended throughout the northern Central American region, including the present-day nations of Guatemala, Belize, western Honduras , El Salvador, and the southern Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, and the Yucatán Peninsula states of Quintana Roo, Campeche and Yucatán.

After the 1521 conquest of Tenochtitlan by Spanish forces and their allies which brought about the effective end of Aztec dominion, the Spanish founded the new settlement of Mexico City on the site of the now-ruined Aztec capital. The capital of the modern-day nation of Mexico, the greater metropolitan area of Mexico City now covers much of the Valley of Mexico and the now-drained Lake of Texcoco.
