No, you don't need a key, all you need to do is pushed on the buttons and pull on it and it will easily open. However, if you are unsure how to open a case are you sure you should be messing in it? Be sure you ground yourself and the computer before you touch any componants or you will burn something out, like the processor, or PCI cards, graphics, or even the MB. It is a good idea to wear a wrist strap that has a thing which snaps to the side of the case to keep yourself grounded, you can buy one at any electronics store, very inexpensive. You may be surprised how much damage static electricity can cause a machine.

Contact Dell, look closely, or consult your users manual. Normal home workstations manufactured by Dell from my experience don't require a key rather just a convenient push button to release the panel. If it does and you don't have a key it shouldn't be difficult to order another.

There should be a button on each of the short sides of the box. You push both of these buttons in, then the case opens up like a book.

look on sides if theres not buttons to push look for screws or such if its a hex or torque then take picture and goto a radio shack and you can pick up a set for under ten dollars that has a wide variety of drivers
