that a person reads a few how-to books and they think they are an expert on the subject? Especially the so-called wiccans who want to teach others how to perform spells without understanding the ethics and spirituality of the path they claim to follow.

No, Cat, they claim to be Wiccan but don't follow the Rede which is one of the main tenants of the faith.

It's true in every field. The less you know, the more you're sure of. :D
A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

The whole thing of people wanted to skip ethics annoys me. I'm not Wiccan so I don't go be the rede, though I think it's a nice thought. I do have my own set of ethics, it's just not written as pretty as the rede.
Spirituality can't be found in the book. I can't remember the exact saying but it's to the effect of... if you can't find it within, you can't find it without. Something like that.

It happens fairly often and it's usually a symptom of being excited about something new and wanting to share it before they really understand what they're doing.
That's why the people who answer those questions here and set them straight are. On some level it does register, even if they don't show us the result.

I am constantly dumbfounded by those who know so much more than me on Pagan Lore......I guess it's just that to some young folks 6 months of study trumps 65+ years of training and a queasiness that I am not going to get too much further in this cycle.
Ah, to have youth and know everything again.

Oh yeah....I've been practicing the craft for 32 years now, and it just so happens that I was told by someone brand new to it all that I've been doing it all wrong. Which is REALLY funny, considering there's about 83 billion ways to do one spell!

By definition, wouldn't those experts be pagans, not Wiccans? :) Sorry, I had to...
