I see a lot of people write poems, but a lot of others say they're not interested in reading. One time my twin sister introduced a poem to a boy in her class, & he knocked her out. Do people hate poetry THIS bad? & I'm thinking about writing some poems, but people say, "Nobody reads poetry anymore."

I like poetry!
Poetry is a great form of self- expression and if you're thinking of writing poems I say go for it. Don't let nothing discourage you from honing your talent. I myself write poetry. Not only that I have an appreciation for others with this talent. I see it as an
art-form. Really! Your painting a picture of your inner-self through words. Through it you can touch so many people.

I love poetry. I think it's beautiful, it's so difficult to write a truly amazing poem. The way the words can make a totally new meaning to the poem. A poem is a lot like a person, they may seem a certain way at first but as you dive into it and really get into the poets head you learn so much. If you have a desire to write poetry i say do it!! who cares what other people say. A true artist doesn't look for anothers acceptance of their craft, they do it for themselves. I wish you the best of luck!!

Of course, people still appreciate poetry.
Will always do as long as there's some human traits in us.
Saying that nobody reads poetry anymore is like saying nobody listens to classical music.
There are many people out there, including myself, who have an appreciation for words.
Write as many poems as you feel like.
And share them with as many people as you want.
Somebody will see the beauty of human talent, the beauty of words, the beauty that comes from poetry.

I don't really care for poetry, but that is just me. I am sure there must be an audience for poetry though, after all people are still writing it.

Knocking someone out is a little extreme though isn't it?

I know that I appreciate poetry. The poetry that I read the most is what was written by my late husband. My husband was 22 and died in a car accident in April of this year. Reading his poetry and our daughter is what keeps me together everyday. His heart is in all of his work and a lot of our memories.

There is so much bad poetry out there that people have lost patience with it. Good poetry is not always recognized until long after it’s written. I love poetry, but my favorites were all written over 50 years ago. I think that this generation's poets are our song writers.

There are still those of us who like to read poetry, but if you are going to write, you need to learn what good poetry is, and how to construct it. That is what I have learned on here. I can't write well, and what I write isn't good poetry, but I keep trying, and someday I'll get it right.

I think the only people who really enjoy poetry are the ones who write it, and even those people only really enjoy their own poetry.

Of course there are exceptions, by think what I'm saying is a good generalization.

There have always been people who appreciate poetry - in it's many forms.

There are some people who are indifferent to it.

And then there are those who dislike it intensely - generally for no good reason.
