By the way, the good general testified that HE is the one who wrote the report. The White House, the Pentagon... Neither of these two government agencies saw the report until he distributed it.

So... Is anyone on the left ready to admit that we ARE making progress in Iraq? Will they admit that MAYBE this is a war we CAN win? Or will they simply continue to spout their baseless- and frankly laughable- rhetoric about this being a "Bush" report and smearing a man who has actually risked his life for this country?

Bushonlysubmale,
While ignoring news from someone who's been in the thick of the fighting, in addition to not even attending strategy briefings.

Ellie A,
"ThinkProgress"? HAH! Now THERE'S a reputable source... NOT. How about citing articles NOT from a lunatic left-wing propaganda page?

Ellie A,
Ooh... Yes... The EEEvil capitalists. Pfft.
Looking at your other sources... Chief among them the Communist News Network, I'd have to say you really need to do more careful research into BOTH sides of an issue. CNN has a well-known left-wing bias. Sorry.

The facts as laid out by Petraeus will have absolutly zero effect on the rantings of the liberals....

Prepare for more warcries of: Haliburton, Bush Lied people died, No Blood for Oil, and whatever colorful statements the libs will come out with.

P.S. I take that back, the libs will say Petraeus is also a liar and has gone over to the "dark side." They may even congressionally investigate him.

Maybe we are making some progress - I would hope we made just a little after 4 years. But the truth is, and I have heard others say this too, that there needs to be a political/cultural answer to this problem, not a military one. The factions that are fighting now have been doing so for 100's, if not 1000's of years. What makes us think we can "make" them stop? And why should we believe that the report from the good general is an honest evaluation? Just like the weapons of mass destruction that weren't there, this could be just another excuse to keep us there.

I don't think the Democrats will stoop to 'smearing a man who has actually risked his life for this country'--that'd make them as bad as the Republicans who trashed John Kerry and Max Cleland. So maybe there is some progress being made in Iraq, but it came pretty late in the game. It doesn't change the fact that the war was bungled for 3 years or that the Iraqis should be able to share more of the load by this point. We need to give Iraq back to the Iraqis and focus on bringing Bin Laden to justice.

Who do you believe?

A member of the House Intelligence Committee, Schakowsky spoke with Gen. David Petraeus in Iraq recently She said Petraeus told her “the U.S. would be in Iraq for 9-10 years if we want to win,” a comment he has made repeatedly.

She warned that there is ongoing PR blitz from the White House and its conservative allies to build public support for a long-term occupation of Iraq:

What I feel is going on right now is that there’s a major PR effort going on to convince the Congress and the media and the public that just enough progress has been made to justify staying. A little more, and then maybe a little more, and a little more — perhaps to where Petraeus has said 9 or 10 years have elapsed. Calling for patience is not at this point going to work with the American people, and I’m hoping…are just too smart to be fooled again.

Edit: What about these then?

This is my point about who do you believe? This opposing point of view wouldn't be shown on any media owned by a war supporter and most of the media is owned by big businesses who are making a lot of money from keeping the war going.

They already had begun their new strategy weeks ago. Now, the idea is that it makes no difference how well the troops are doing in Iraq, but that thei Iraqi government is incompetant and wasting our time, money, lives, and resources. Pelosi has not yet tried to dispute that the troop surge is working because all evidence CLEARLY points away from her earlier claims. Now the democRATS are forced to find new means to sway the American people into their political ball-park (fantasy world).

They will insist on going through all the boring facts and details from what is happening in Iraq and point out the independent studies.

Libs will insist on airing all the facts :( emboldening the enemy with our bad news.
