For me, the most mysterious thing about the universe is what's called 'dark energy.' This is some mysterious, totally unknown force that's causing the expansion rate of the universe to accelerate.

Thought isn't as mysterious as it once was because we now know that it's really just synapses firing in our brains in certain patterns.

That matter is mostly empty space. I mean the fact that atoms have this dense nucleus and the tiny electrons are flying around it in a relatively large space just blows my mind.
