I am concerned that if I continually replace my outdated iPods that I am using up digital rights to the music I buy on iTunes. Is this a real concern and what can I do to avoid this problem?

What an outstanding question!

This had never occurred to me, but it certainly is a reasonable concern. It is one with MANY implications (for example, if I own multiple MP3 players simultaneously, do I still own the "right" to the music I purchased and can I play it on the player of my choice for as long as I live?).

Were I in your position, I would not hesitate to write Apple (or even Steve Jobs directly) to get a definitive answer. In addition, if the answer is anything less than "infinite", I would fire off a letter to the editor of my local paper outlining the details.

Best of luck to you,

The previous answer is incorrect you can only allow 5 "computers" to play music you purchase from itunes. (Note that there is NO limit when using itunes plus.)

As for ipods you can transfer your music to an unlimited number of ipods (technically). Since you are the buyer of the song your are the sole owner of this file and thus should install it only on ipod (or other devices) that you own. If you purchase new players you are allowed to transfer your music to your new players without any kind of limitations.

Enjoy!

Once you buy it, it is yours forever. But you can only have it play on a max of 5 devices at a time. All you have to do when you reach the limit is go to your iTunes account and disable all the other computers etc. For instance, I had my iTunes songs playing on a computer I gave my grandson, I just dropped that computer from my list of ones that I could play my music on.
