No unemployment is only if you are fired, and until you find another job. I would suggest finding another job before quitting your current one. Good luck! =)

The short answer is - It depends on the state and why you quit.

If you quit because your boss was verbally abusive to you, then you would probably get unemployment, but it wouldn't be easy. You would have to prove your boss treated you like that; or evidence would be gathered from you and your boss and the unemployment office would decide whom to believe; or if your boss doesn't contest your unemployment claim, you might be home free.

If you quit because your job was lame and you just didn't like it, then you will probably be denied unemployment. Basically, in this situation, you left a job that you could've stayed at - what the unemployment office might call a 'viable' job.

If you were fired, you might be able to get unemployment, depending on the circumstances. Unemployment is really meant for people whose job was eliminated, were laid off, or their employer closed the company.

I would recommend you check with your local unemployment office or your state's unemployment website.

Good luck and I hope the information helps!

Unfortunately, you can file for unemployment and a letter would go to your previous employer asking them why you are no longer working there. If they answer that you voluntarily left, there are no benefits awarded.

I would not challenge the idea as you would still have to prove that are 'actively seeking' employment.

No, quitting isn't acceptable reason for filing unemployment. They will turn down your claim.
