There's so much to hate about this question it hurts!

First of all, use of the term "limeys" is quite disrespectful.

Second, World War II DID start in 1939, commencing with Hitler's invasion of Poland. The US did not immediately join the war.

Third, we didn't defeat anyone at Pearl Harbor in 1941 -- we were soundly routed at Pearl Harbor by a sneak attack from Japan, who were NOT communist then or at any other time in their history.

Historians and the rest of the world know WWII started on Sept 1, 1939 with the German invasion of Poland. The critical mass was reached, which also included the conflagaration in the Orient. There were no commies at Pearl,...sorry.

The United States was late getting into World War II. Regardless of the disagreement about when precisely the war started, it was well underway by the time the U.S. got involved. By the way, WE were the ones licked at Pearl Harbor. (You might not like my saying that, but that's the fact of the matter.)

Also, persons from the United Kingdom don't like referred to as "limeys".

Thank you for a most ethnocentric critique and quite ignorant question./rant - it truly made my day. World War II starts with the word "world", which implies by its mere saying that the war included elements of the world. The war did indeed start "officially" with the Blitzkrieg of Poland, and as others have so eloquently put it, the Nipponese empire otherwise known as Japan was not nor ever has been Communist, and delivered one old fashioned country butt whuppin to an unprepared Pacific fleet. By the way, the moderators of Yahoo have given a valuable service called the preview which allows people who ask questions, no matter how ill-informed they are, the ability to correctly spell words and check for grammatical errors before it is posted for the world to see/answer. I might add that you would benefit from such.

Yea, you are way off. first of all some say that world war II could have been started earlier than 1939. it has been theorized the incipient event to kickoff the war was when hitler invaded the rheinland or sudetenland or something. Other say it was when japan invaded china. But the commies weren't defeated at pearl harbor. and other say that the war didn't end from world war I to begin with.

in europe the world war started much earlier, try to remember the spanish civil war? also there were no communists involved in pearl harbor in 1941, it was the the japanese attacking the us naval fleet. please increase your medication there!
