My tailbone was slightly dislocated a while back because I twisted my waist in an akward manner. I was in terrible pain usually in the middle of sitting and standing or trying to get up from bed. My doctor had me lie down and he basically pushed my shoulder and hip in different directions to reset the bone. It worked and the pain was gone immediately. There was still some swelling though where the dislocation occured so there was still some slight discomfort. For that he gave me pain pills that were also anti-inflammatory (kind o like Motrin).
That's it.
I'm not a physician though so don't take my word for it. What worked for me may not work for you. Best bet is to still consult a doctor. You may also just go visit a chiropractor to have him reset your spine. It was just my luck that my doctor is trained in setting bones too because a typical MD is not really trained to do that and will most likely refuse to do it for fear of litigation.
Hope that helps.

I'm not sure on the exact following reason of how it happened but I have a bruised coccyx. It happened when I was 10.... I was told then there is nothing that can be done. I, now in my early 40's have suffered lower pain since. I have managed through my pain because I've had it for so long. My heart goes out to you - I understand the horrible pain you will endure. You might want to contact another doctor for another opinion to be on the safe side. Good Luck to you.

I can't imagine a dislocated tailbone. I had a bruised tailbone from a slide at a county fair once. It hurt me for several weeks. Did the doc give you anything for the pain?

I broke my tailbone once when I was a kid. I was sliding down a waterfall in a river and hit a big rock really hard. I couldn't sit down for a couple weeks. The doctor said there was nothing to do. It got better with time.

I have never heard of a dislocated tailbone after pregancy. I have seen x-rays of such critters after my mom fell of her horse. Very painful, no fun, and not a lot can be done. I reccommend an osteopath. Osteopaths are great at mitigating pain. I would choose one over a chiropractor any day. Mine is great!

I fractured my tailbone one time waterskiing and the doctor told me that there was nothing that I could do for it--just that it would get better with time. It was so painful. I could hardly sit down and it was really hard to get comfortable laying down. It did get better but, it took a really long time. I hope that it gets better soon.

I found some information that might be helpful to you. It's a site all about that particular bone. There are people who suffered a dislocation of it and tell how it was treated for them. Hope it helps.
Here's one lady who had surgery for it: http://www.coccyx.org/personal/2002/tandra.htm
And here's the main site: http://www.coccyx.org/

My mom broke her tailbone when she was 16 and it still bothers her to this day. She said that it will take a long time for it to get better. But you probably won't beable to sit for long periods of time anymore.
So sry that it happened.

Mine got broken falling a few days after I got married. It hurt really bad for 3 1/2 months. Then, I was ok. I took naproxen for the pain.
