Damn such a simple question and no one seemed to be able to get it. Yes, you can run 32 bit games (and any 32 bit application) in a 64 bit OS. In fact, the vast majority of stuff you run will still be 32 bit, not many 64 bit apps out there.

There have been a few 64-bit games released.* However, most 64-bit programs that have been written thus far are more technical in nature. But it is coming.
Games are rapidly advancing and it will not be too long before 64-bit ones become more mainstream; especially with the advent of Windows Vista 64-bit and more sales of 64-bit processor-based systems. The main obstacle has been that it just is not financially feasible for most game companies to switch over yet. The vast majority of people who play games still use 32-bit processors, but that is changing as the demands for better, faster, more realistic graphics, AI and action increases and more people buy the newer system.
Just like the 16-bit MSDOS based systems are disappearing, the days of 32-bit systems are numbered as well. As long as you are willing to work and play with a limited selection of software for awhile, going 64-bit is okay. The rest of the world will gradually catch up with you.

By the time the software gets there - your hardware is going to be old news.
If it costs extra - don't do it. Regular 32bit XP and dual core hardware is the way to go - unless there's no additional cost for the 64 bit processor and you intend on keeping it a while.
Driver sets for Vista and XP 64 aren't the greatest by comparison.
You'll also have substantial performance issues with Vista vs XP32 or XP64 in games.
To be THE MOST COMPATIBLE - WITH THE MOST OPTIONS - and THE LEAST HEADACHES - XP32 is the way to go. Alot of the high-tech "spend all my money on video cards every 6 months so they can depreciate 85% in 3 months" fan-boy types don't get that the average joe doesn't want all the headaches that come with trying to stay on that edge.
Best of luck.

absolutely everyone of them. you do no longer somewhat choose sixty 4 bit precise now, yet for the destiny it does no longer injury. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, i could flow with Vista, and by ability of vista i think which you propose the sixty 4 bit version of vista besides. assume some rocky roads previous to you while applying sixty 4 bit vista considering the fact that its no longer the appropriate factor precise now. maximum anybody is probable applying 32 bit vista. additionally, Vista has Dx10, which isn't accessible with XP. So while you're a gamer, you ought to already understand the place its going. I geared up my contemporary laptop some months in the past and that i at present have XP residing house version put in. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, i will finally get Vista 32 bit or sixty 4 bit interior the destiny while it somewhat makes a distinction. I too have 4GB of RAM, and saved 2 slots empty ought to I ever choose extra memory interior the destiny. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, 4GB is a good number of memory, even for Vista. purely make certain which you get a sturdy motherboard to assist your upgrading needs. My contemporary setup has one 8800GT superclocked and a Q6600 overclocked to 3.0GHz.

The new games are coming out in DX9 and DX10 some in only DX10. XP doesn't and never will support DX10. You really wont need DX10 for about 6 months so you may want to wait til the cards that can really run DX10 come out. The ones out now, even the ultras are crap with DX10.

I put 64bit ulimate in my gaming rig to run games like Crysis in DX10. Anyone who says XP and DX9 is the way to go for hardcore gaming obviously isn't hanging around the crowd of gamers I am!
