Anyone with a reasonable knowledge of the world and its workings realizes that there are a million shades of gray and no black and white. Generally speaking:
Liberals tout the fact that they see all these shades of gray and the complex interrelations between them. I don't doubt this to be true. I do believe that this desire to take every shade of gray into consideration can have an adverse effect on decisiveness.
Conservatives tend to be labeled as seeing only black and white. While this is certainly the case in some instances, I do not think it is indicative of conservative thinking in general. Conservatives are aware of the many shades of gray, but quickly eliminate most shades as non-choices to reduce the number of viable options. This ability lends itself to quick decision making, but sometimes filters workable solutions that merited more consideration.
For the above stated reasons, I believe that liberals need conservatives, conservatives need liberals, and moderates need them both to find the middle.

Unfortunetly Charles H, you're no longer the king of the republican celebration/conservatives nor even its psychological voice. No the two a style of types are social conservatives. in simple terms considering the fact which you're cheering for them on the sidelines and have determination perspectives does no longer mean that all of them do. it may be naive to think of so.With the former republican president asserting that we are all sinners in terms of gays. and psychological voices like Limbaugh and Coulter making many homophobic and hateful comments. Thats because of the fact because of the fact the Eighteen Eighties the republican celebration has courted the social conservatives on an identical time as democrats courted new social strikes in favour of gay rights and womens rights. the tip effect is that the ethical epicentres of the conservative celebration are non secular extremists and people like Bush and Limbaugh be conscious this and latch on. So the democratic celebration inspite of its lose loyalty to the womens flow and its dedication to gay rights seems greater open minded than conservatives and those are the segments of society that have no determination yet to back it because of the fact the conservative turn of the republicans.

I agree with hopeful for change. I also think that as you age and learn about the world a little more in depth, your politics start to change. And instead of asking where you should stand on a spectrum of liberal vs. conservative, you should consider the topics at hand and choose with which you agree or disagree, which will give you a much clearer idea of where you should stand on anything.

I'm a Liberal and this is my take on my Conservative friends and family. . . they just perform better in an orderly society . . . it's what makes them comfortable. They are very good at being on time, working over time, and generally are highly efficient people who respond well to leadership. However, they do not feel comfortable with "gray" areas . . . it generally tends to be an either or situation for them. They are inclined to throw all their eggs in one basket. I think Liberals are much more cerebral. We enjoy the gray areas . . . and are much more comfortable in mildly structured environments. I would describe the differences using this anecdote . . . A liberal would sit around for years daydreaming about how to harness atomic energy and eventually come up with the solution. However, it would take a conservative to apply the solution.

Most of the world's political problems are complex. When one only sees the world in black and white so much of the complexity is missed. Open minds see the world in many colors, as being many faceted. The scientific data shows that those with liberal minds are more open to the neuances and multifaceted and complex problems of modern political issues than the conservatives are.

opinions are individual and guided by the morals people were raised on. People can think liberally on some issues and conservatively on others. They don't all lean to one side or the other.
Why do things always have to seem so black and white in politics?

Let's see you are the group that wants to suck babies out of their mother's womb and flush them down the drain, aren't you?
I do not know gets credit for this quote...some say Churchill, but frankly I just do not know. Let me paraphrase...If you are not a liberal by the time you are twenty, you have no heart. If you are not a conservatrive by the time you are forty, youhave no brain.
Conservatives want government out of their lives and liberals want government to run our lives.
