In Windows Xp you were able to mouse over the connection icon and it would say at what speed you were connected at. But with vista it does not seem to give any information. I was wondering if there is a setting to change or somthing that would give that information. I am not interested in doing it by connnecting to a website and doing a download test or somthing like that though.

The info you describe is the speed of the LAN connection not the WAN connection. You can have a 100 Mbps LAN connection wiht a 256 Kbps WAN connection and you will see a 100 Mbps LAN speed reading on the mouse over.

I am not sure if Vista shows the LAN speed. You can go to your network switch and look at the LED color; most switches light yellow for 10 Mbps, green for 100 Mbps but check with your switch maker for this.

Hi. There are many free sites. My favorite is PCpitstop.com . http://pcpitstop.com/ . Speakeasy.com http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ will also test your speed.
