Hi can anyone explain to me, how I set up a second independant internet connection I got my son a second hand system , but I know you are allowed about 4/5 seperate pc's in one house & I think one needs a router, but how exactly do I go about this ..We are in Scotland.
Many thanks for taking time to read.

I am not sure what kind of hardware you can use in scotland but here is the way I would set it up if you can do it same as me - I have a dsl modem - from there I would hook up a small ethernet router if modem didnt have router built-in - fro router, one cable goes to one pc and another cable goes to the other one - when you run the cables, make sure you are able to tuck them out of the way somehow so you arent tripping over them and perhaps pulling the pc off the desk and breaking them as well

I presume your Internet connection is terminated with a modem.

I am going to assume you have a wired network and a wired router with a 4 port LAN switch built in. You presume that this limits your number of LAN devices. It does not. Buy an 8 port network switch. Run a straight CAT5 from one router LAN port to 1 network switch port (read the manual carefully - you may need to use the uplink port if so equiped). Connect all the pcs to the other ports of the network switch (remove them from the router and put them in the switch).

All pcs should have their LAN connection set to obtain ip and dns automatically. The router should be configured to assign LAN IP addresses via DHCP and I suspect this is already the case.

If you are using wireless or some wired and some wireless, and you ran out of wired ports the same advice of above applies.
