Hate from the US:
I don't think theres a clear answer for this. It' could have something to do with manliness. Football is seen as a tough sport but if they're so tough, why do they wear body armor? Rugby players don't. But i don't hate it. And if you like the amount of equipment players wear then Hockey should be huge. But Hockey is from Canada and Canada is not the US so boo on that right? Hold on, let me run off and buy a Daisuke Matsuzaka jersey so i can hop on that HUGE hypocrite bandwagon that is "American" sports. I believe it was the Red sox who paid $51mil. just to "TALK" to his agent. That, combined with the Bonds/Steroids HR watch is reason enough to label the MLB as a joke. But i don't hate it.
The reason i give you all, again, is because you think you're supposed to not like it.
The media fills your head with whatever they want you to think and the word gets spread from generation to generation. Look at anything and apply that theory. Look at music, religion, politics, politically correctness. Sports is no different.
The only advice to someone who has something negative to say is: "Forget about it. Walk away. And when your child excels at soccer and not baseball or football, support them."

Why do people generalize an entire country?
So the only people that hate soccer are Americans?
I am American and I like soccer. I know they don't hate soccer but many Americans PREFER to watch NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, PGA, LPGA, WNBA...maybe there is a lot to choose from...TOO many choices.
Also, a lot of the sports you love depends greatly on your family. If your mom and dad watched soccer when you were younger then you probably will watch soccer throughout your entire life, and you will probably do the same with your kids.
I grew up watching baseball. I think there might be a chance my kids will like watching baseball as well...I seriously do think that.
There is not hating just preference. Think for once people.
