Okay, I am hoping it's fixable, and more so fixable by me, but I will probably have to hire someone, what do you think:

Dishwasher has been leaving a filmy residue on the dishes. Someone suggested running a tiny bit of bleach through a cycle with no dishes. Did that, didn't help. Changed soap, etc. Still have the problem. Now, the dishwasher in the past few days has gotten the soap stuck in the little soap container, and there is water in the bottom of the dishwasher, just sitting there. What happened??? Thanks!!

It sounds like a pump problem, but check the simple things first.

Look inside your dishwasher where the water empties and remove anything that may be blocking it. Labels, and certain foods may have accumulated there preventing the water from circulating through your pump properly.

Once that’s clear, check that the sounds your dishwasher makes are correct, particularly washing and emptying. Open the dishwasher during the washing cycle to see if water gets everywhere.

If your dishwasher still doesn’t empty properly and water doesn’t get everywhere, it’s a pump problem, either there is something inside that’s blocking it or it is worn out. you will need to remove your dishwasher to investigate further, so turn the power off at the breaker. To disconnect your dishwasher, first remove the kick plate below the door, find the electrical wire and disconnect, noting where they were. Turn off the hot water line (hopefully there whoever installed your dishwasher installed a shut-off valve under the sink). Remove the screws under the counter above the door to release the dishwasher from the counter and slide it out.

Turn your dishwasher on its side and look for the pump. Disconnect the hoses and look for blockage. Unbolt the pump and look inside for debris that might block it. If everything is clear, you may need to replace your pump. Call your manufacturer’s parts department with your model and serial number.

you need to get a bottle of the dishwasher cleaner soap . You can get that in the isle where you get all the dishwasher soap. That you put into then dishwasher without any dishes. that will clean up any residue to anything and hard water stains. MAke sure you wash your dishes with hot water !
Also whipe down the bottom of the washer everynow and then to get items out that did not get pumped out with the water.

Too much detergent and soft water can leave a cloudy residue on your dishes.

Hard water can leave spots also. For hard water issues:

Water in the bottom of the dishwasher is normal. Some water needs to cover the seals to keep them from drying out.

Look at this link - if you have a lot of water left in the dw, this may help you sort it out. http://www.apwagner.com/appliancerepaircenter/Dishwashers.htm#Q11

Check the drain pipe - sounds as though it could be blocked. I sling the soap tablet right into the machine - don't bother with the little drawer thing anymore. It sounds like it might not be getting hot enough water either!!

Check the pipes going in - make sure the taps are wide open.

Probably a repairman job though.

The pump isn't pumping the dirty water out-hence the residue from all the gray water being splashed around.
See if you can hear it kick on when you cycle thru the controls.
If not it'll prolly have to be replaced.

I can only use Casade liquid in my washer. All other brands just clog up the mechanisms. Refill your rinse aid (the blue Jet Dry liquid) too or get a rinse aid bar to hang in your washer.
